Thermo King Donates $15,000 to Feeding America through We Move Food Program for Hunger Action Month

Hunger Action Month big check is presented.

Thermo King dealers, customers raise total We Move Food Program donations to more than $.5 million since 2018.

Minneapolis, Minn., September 27, 2024 – In honor of Hunger Action Month, Thermo King, a leader in sustainable transport temperature control solutions and a strategic brand of Trane Technologies (NYSE: TT), teamed up with its network of dealers and customers to donate $15,000 to Feeding America food banks in Orlando, Florida and Kansas City, Missouri through its We Move Food program. The nationwide philanthropic program has donated more than $550,000 to food banks around the country since Thermo King launched it in 2018, enabling the distribution of more than 5.5 million meals to those in need.*

“We are committed to delivering freshness and making our world a better place. We are incredibly humbled by the impact We Move Food continues to make in communities and our industry thanks to the amazing support of our dealers and customers. The program helps us address the food instability challenges that exist where we live and work, and the need is great as 1 in 8 people continue to face hunger,” said Adam Wittwer, president, Thermo King Americas.

This latest donation will help the Orlando and Kansas City food banks address the more than 869,000 collective people impacted by hunger in the counties they serve. The Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida distributes 300,000 meals every day to partner programs such as food pantries, soup kitchens, women's shelters, senior centers, day care centers and Kids Cafes — all in a seven-county area. Harvesters - The Community Food Network in Kansas City serves a 27-county area and helps feed 226,000 people every month**.

On September 23 and 24 at the IFDA Solutions Conference in Kansas City, Thermo King sponsored a Cool Down Lounge for visitors to unwind, learn more about We Move Food and show their support to end hunger by adding their name to a special donation wall. Thermo King donated $3 for each visitor and presented a $5,000 check to Feeding America’s Harvesters - The Community Food Network.

“We’re grateful to Thermo King for this wonderful donation that will help provide 10,000 meals to families and seniors in our region,” said Jillain Williams, director of philanthropy for Harvesters - The Community Food Network. “Food insecurity numbers continue to rise making the challenge great to keep up with demand for food assistance. Having support from businesses like Thermo King is vital to ensuring we can continue to fulfill our mission and strive for a time when no one is hungry in our country.”

Hunger Action Month - Second Harvest of Central Florida

On September 25, Thermo King of the Southeast (TKSE) presented a check for $10,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. “Nobody should go hungry. We are proud to continue doing our part through We Move Food with Second Harvest as well as other food banks in our community. This includes monetary donations, volunteerism and discounts on products to ensure freshness is maintained throughout the distribution channel — a key component to combatting hunger,” said Ed Corry, president, TKSE, which consists of seven Thermo King dealership locations throughout Florida and Georgia.

Thermo King’s We Move Food program is designed to increase access to fresh healthy food by reducing waste and supporting nutrition education for families and communities that struggle with hunger and food instability. Through a strategic partnership with Feeding America, Thermo King and its more than 180 dealerships in North America provide grant funds and discounts to Thermo King products and services and employee volunteerism to more than 200 food banks in the United States to address the barriers those experiencing hunger face daily. The We Move Food program also provides nutrition education through Feeding America’s mobile food pantries.

Earlier this year, Thermo King donated $10,000 on behalf of We Move Food to The Food Bank of Puerto Rico in honor of the 50th anniversary of Thermo King’s production facility in Arecibo.
